tax liability

I recently moved from MO to CO. Will I owe state income taxes for 2005 to both states?

Re: tax liability

Welcome to Colorado. The short answer is that you will probably have to pay Colorado income taxes, assuming that you moved to Colorado with the intent of making Colorado your home.

Colorado, like most states, taxes individuals who live in the state and have earnings or if they have Colorado-sourced income (even if the individual does not live in the state).

Generally, Colorado-sourced income will include any income from a job that you worked/performed in Colorado, a business that you carried on in Colorado, and/or income or gain from Colorado property.

So for Colorado income tax purposes you will probably need to file as a part-time resident (however no return is typically due if you are not required to file a federal tax return).
