Legal Question in Traffic Law in Colorado

Should I go to court over my traffic-accident ticket, or just pay the fine and 'move on'? I have been ticketed for 'careless driving' after a side-to-side accident with another vehicle. A vehicle to my right started heading for me. Fearing being hit, I made the split second decision to jerk my car to the left to avoid him. That car, unhit, continued down the road. Unfortunately, I hit the car to my left. I have driven for 43 years--since age 16--without an accident until this. Is it likely the municipal judge will lower the fine or the number of points against my driver's license?

I would suggest going to court. Generally you can negotiate the ticket down so that you do not have a conviction for the careless driving. With a good driving record you should be able to get the charge reduced or perhaps a deferred sentence which would not be a conviction on your record. The fines usually do not get reduced. By preventing the points of a careless driving record, this can help you down the road should you get more tickets. Also, it may help with your insurance premiums.
