Legal Question in Traffic Law in Colorado

I was stopped in Denver, It was around 4 marked police cars and 2 under covers. I produced a valid license, insurance and registration. I was asked to get out of the car and the officer searched my person. They took the cash I had in my pocket, which was around $1200. He asked to seacch my car and I said no. A plain clothes officer then approached talking about my car being used in drug sales. False. I was placed in a car where all my information was taken down. The plain clothes officer then comes to the car telling me "It's my lucky day" He was letting me go but impounding my car. He didn't give me any information just a first name and a cell phone number on a piece of paper that he stuffed in my pocket when I was handcuffed.

I'm walking away from the scene and I see the officer get in my car and drive off. Is that legal? I get in touch with the plain clothes office who said he name was "jermey". He was being a real jerk and I ask why he drove away in my car he said "to save tow cost".

The next day I call all the impounds and different towing company and no one knows where my car is. I call the Denver Narc office and the only record they have of my is a warning a recieved for window tint last year. Also the Jermey guy is sort of a mystery. Should I report my car stolen?

I don't know that law name but I was told that the officer could take my car on some bogus claim. With this law can the officer legally search my car?

Would there be a way that I could get my money back?

Yes, report it stolen, along with the money.

I suspect the police will think this is a bogus story, so you will need all the information on your car registration.

that is very strange, indeed.
