Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Colorado

Child Support

My mother has a court order from 20+ years for child support against my father. We live in Indiana and he moved away to Colorado when the order was issued. We could never contact him and found out a couple years back that he died in 2001. I spoke to an attorney in Indiana and they said she might have a claim against his estate and that we would need to first contact a probate attorney in Colorado to determine if we can still make a claim against his estate for child support. So that is what I am trying to find out. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Child Support

Since most claims must be filed within 12 months of the date of death, you will need to determine if a child support claim can be filed after that deadline.

You should contact an attorney in Colorado who specializes in child support questions to investigate this issue.
