custodian account change of custodian

My mom passed away without a sucessor custodian to accounts she established for her 2 grandchildren. I've been told by the mutual fund I need to petition the courts for a change in custodian to the account, with me as the custodian. How do I do that?

You would need to petition the Probate Court for a single transaction protective proceeding to obtain appointment.
