Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Colorado

Distribution of trust before age requirement

I am to receive money from my grandmother's trust when I am 25, 30 and 35. A portion is to be dispersed with every birthday. I just received my first installment after my 25th birthday and the trustee has decided to give the money to me before the age requirement because it is too costly to keep. He told me that he first has to find out if this is at all legal. I would like to know, is it legal to disperse the money before the age requirement if the trustee says that it is ok?

Re: Distribution of trust before age requirement

Yes, this can be fine depending on the provisions of the trust document. It is common for there to be a provision that allows the trustee to terminate a trust that the trustee deems uneconomical to operate.

Read the trust document or take it to your attorney.
