Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Colorado
Family member refuses to settle estate
Is there a time limit for settling an estate? There was no will, 2 elderly surviving siblings. The process got to the point of an appraisal on property. There is probably in the area of $500,000.00 in savings and CDs, value of water rights and mineral rights also included. One party refuses to accept the property appraisal and has refused to continue with any part of settling the estate. This family member also occupies the property. He refuses to buy out the sibling or to have anything to do with hiring another attorney to represent himself. The death of the family member was in June 2002.

Yes, you can take action as long as you haven't waited for more than a year after the decedent's death. Contact a qualified trust and estate lawyer to assist you.
