The will should nominate a person or persons to serve as the personal representative (executor) for the estate. No one is obligated to take on this responsibility. You should check with the named personal representative to find out what is happening with the estate. The estate will be administered in the state where your godmother was a resident at the time she died. Depending upon that state's procedures, you will receive information about the naming of the personal representative and subsequent events in the administration of the estate.
I concur with Mr. Valentine. In addition, you may consider filing a Demand for Notice with the Probate Court. Also, as an "interested person" you could also petition the Court to be appointed as the Personal Representative for the estate.
You can obtain information directly from the Court and many of the probate forms are online, available from the website for the Colorado Supreme Court. You may also consider visiting with an attorney who specializes in estates and estate litigation.
