Without a marital agreement, your new spouse will have rights to a portion of your estate. These rights are designed to protect a surviving spouse in Colorado.
To learn more about how these laws apply in your particular situation, you should contact a lawyer in your area who specializes in estate planning.

The percentage share of the estate increases each year. After ten years of marriage, the surviving spouse is entitled to 50 % of your estate. If that is not your intention, you and your spouse need to consider having a premarital agreement.
