Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Colorado

Am I responsible for paying my deceased mother's death

My Mother passed away with no assets other than some furniture. We barely had the money to pay for her funeral. recently I received a letter from a collection agency to the tune of $11,000. Apparently she had racked up a lot of credit card debt before she died. If there is no money or assets in the estate, what happens to all this debt?

Re: Am I responsible for paying my deceased mother's death

Unless you have agreed in some legal way to become liable for those debts of your Mother's, you are not. Your actions or signatures on documents prior or subsequent to her death need to be analyzed to determine that this is true.

You should consult with an experienced trusts and estates attorney in your area for more detailed advice.
