Legal Question in Employment Law in Connecticut

Laid off one year before retirement

My father, who is 64 years old, was laid off last week. My brother thinks that this could be some age discrimination issue over here. I talked to a couple of friends, they seemed to think so too. What should my father do?

It is hard to tell if age discrimination is involved from what you have said--depends on the facts. It could be that his employer terminated your father to avoid paying him pension benefits (if such benefits triggered in a year, as your email suggests). That could also be illegal. I am glad to discuss the situation with your father and would not charge him to discuss the matter. I can be reached at 212 867-4754.
