Legal Question in Banking Law in Connecticut
NSF Check and Services Not Delivered
After signing a contract to have our house painted, we contacted the supplier to cancel the contract per the terms of the contract. They did not return calls, so I put a stop payment on the deposit check and moved money out of my checking account to ensure that the check wouldn't clear while the bank was processing the stop payment. The chaeck was sent back to the supplier as NSF, and not they are threatening to prosecute me if I do not pay the amount in full, even though the contract was cancelled and the services were never delivered. Can they do this?
