Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Connecticut
Settlement coming my way.
I had a settlement award of over $100,000. The defendent has filed an appeal so we are going through those ropes now.
I also have debt of about $100,000 for which I am considering filing bankruptcy.
You can probably guess my question; But will the bankruptcy trustee use the settlement money to settled debts, if I also win in appeals court?

Yes. Some of the settlement would be exempt, but the trustee would def. be looking at the rest and would jump into the appeal.

Yes.Under certain circumstances your settlement,or a substantial portion, may be used to satisfy debt. You do benefit from specific exemptions, but you need to sit with a bankruptcy attorney . Dennis P. McDonough
