can an employer implement a point system for sick days and tardiness?

As a Franchise Attorney I can say the following. Unless there is a written contract of employment that governs the relationship, employers can pretty much do anything they please. It is an at will employment, meaning either party can terminate for any reason at any time. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
