Legal Question in Business Law in Connecticut

Not sure if this would fall under business law or not. I own a business located in a light industrial zone. Been here 5 years. Recently, a new manufacturing business moved into an adjacent building close by. Once they got their machines up and running, we started hearing and actually feeling major pounding in our shop, all day long. Sometimes the pounding is so powerful it actually rattles our overhead light bulbs. It is like a Chinese water torture in here at times. Bang, bang, bang...for hours on end. I realize they are in business and have a right to run their machinery, but I don't feel we should have to put up with it all day. I do a lot of writing at my business and find it is virtually impossible to concentrate. I don't think it is my responsibility to approach them so I mentioned it to our landlord who went over there to hear it for himself. They must have shown him how it sounds on a lower setting or something, because he said it didn't sound loud at all. Right now, our walls are literally shaking. Any suggestions?

I wasn't able to access Milford noise ordinances online since they are not yet posted on the internet. You may want to go down to the town hall and speak with the zoning enforcement officer in charge of noise issues. There is a way to measure the decibels of the noise to see if it exceeds applicable standards.

If you are not successful in reducing the noise through the town zoning enforcer, then you could probably hire an expert to come out and measure the decibels to see if you in fact have a case against the emitter. If you do, then you may have to sue the emitter in court.
