A top recognised Manager of a unique chain food store calls headquarters and tells them her name is changed, finally having to explain she is gay and getting married in Vermont. Less than 4 days later this top employee (who has just recieved a bonus a week earlier for being in the top 3 of all managers goes to work to be fired and framed for stealing something 3 employees saw a Human resource person hand her. Something worth maybe $8-10.00- Two woman who worked in others stores come foreward and write statements that they overheard if she was found outr to be gay she would be fired. They write a statement. The 3 other employees who saw her recieve them first say they would stand behind her but then get intimidated and fear losing their jobs, they are older and may not get a job they like as easily. The only person who saw her recieve the bonus cards and overheard the boss say- I know you didnt do it but its over my head'' is the wife. She was the one responsible for hundreds of dollars throughout the 3 years she was there- never having any missing money, ever.

Advise her to find a good, aggresive litigator (trial attorney) and go after this company and the individuals, not only for her job back, but back pay, emotional distress, and punitive damages.

Contact the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. They handle discriminatory fires. They are in the blue pages [government listings] in your phone book.
