Legal Question in Technology Law in Connecticut
Someone hacked my website. This website is the sole income for my husband and is a legal business in the state of Connecticut. Only a portion of the website was hacked, as the other portions apparently were a little more secure. There are three portions - a portfolio of work, a store, and a blog to promote and share the experiences of the work. The blog servers as advertising and marketing and has been available many months to our readers. \n\nThe person hacked the password for the blog and removed all of the content from the blog manually. We have recorded his IP address inside of a password protected directory that only myself and my husband know the password to. There is no reason what so ever to give this person the password. \n\nWhat are the typical damages on a case like this where the website hacked was a business website, and not just a side business, but a main source of income?? Also, what autorities are to be contacted? We had already contacted the IP addresses\' internet service provider and told them about the break in the terms of service by one of their customers, but that still does not give us legal grounds. \n\n

This could be a crime. You should talk with a detective at the police department. I can't comment on how much damages would be in a civil case because I don't have enough information.
