Legal Question in Construction Law in Connecticut

Plumbing Contractor Overcharge

I hired a plumbing company to repair my sewer pump. I was given 2 estimates ($6500 and $5500, and possibly both), for 2 different potential problems. When the plumber actually started working on the pump, it turned out to be something much less severe. However, I was still charged $5,500 for the job. I argued it for a while, but then paid. Since then (2/12), they have come out to 13 additional times to fix their botched jobs under warranty. I finally called another plumber who told me that I was charged $5500 for a $250 part and what should have been 3 hours worth of work. I believe a fair price should have been under $1,000. Do I have a leg to stand on if I dispute this charge?

Re: Plumbing Contractor Overcharge

There are consumer laws to protect consumers such as yourself. The issue then revolves and depends upon the agreement you had with the contractor. Second, if you feel he did not peform under those terms or defrauded you in some way, then you would have a leg to stand on. I would simply need more information to fully assess your situation.
