Legal Question in Consumer Law in Connecticut
7 years ago, my then boyfriend paid for an item for me costing $7000 using his credit card. I have paid $200 toward that debt each month. During the following 4 years, he continued to purchase items using the same credit card however, he was delinquent in his payments and consequently the interest rate is approximately 30%. I have repeatedly asked him to contact the company to try to negotiate a lower rate or make other arrangements for a lower rate. He did cease purchasing on the card. We are no longer together, however I continue to pay the credit card bill. My calculations indicate that I have paid approximately $16,000 which far exceeds the original "loan". I would like to know how long I am responsible for paying this bill since he refuses to investigate an alternative.

If your name is not on the credit card then you don't have to pay anything towards the debt.
