Legal Question in Consumer Law in Connecticut
My boyfriend is still on a cell phone plan with his ex-girlfriend. She has stopped paying for her half of the bill, and is refusing to pay for what she has used and the fee for the cancellation of her phone. If I pay the bill, would I be able to take her to small claims court to get my money back, or would my boyfriend have to sue her because the phones are in his name?

Your boyfriend would have to take her to small claims court. You wouldn't really have standing to bring a claim on your own. I have seen people try to do that, and sometimes the magistrate allows the case to go forward, but just as often, I've seen the cases dismissed.
I'd recommend that he remove her from the plan immediately, but make sure he keeps records of her usage in case he decides to take her to small claims court. If it is a significant amount of money owed, and you plan to pay for it, make sure you have a contract with him stating that you are giving him that amount and that he will pay you back within a certain period of time. That way, if things don't work out between the two of you, you have a shot at getting the money back.
