Legal Question in Consumer Law in Connecticut

Used car from private party

I bought a used car less than a month ago in NY. I was told that the condition was fine and it was checked out (the guy who sold it owns an Avis Lube). I drove it home a week later to CT and the check engine light came on. I brought it in and the first place reset the light, but it came on a week later. I was told it was the torque converter and would cost $3000. It seems to me that the seller knew about this problem before he sold it and didn't tell me.

Is there anything I can do about it? The car was bought as-is, but I feel like I was decieved.

You may be able to sue, if you can prove that he knew about the problem and attempted to cover it up. However, the defense to that would be that you waived any such warranty by buying it as is.

In any event, email me at [email protected] and I will try to help you.
