Legal Question in Consumer Law in Connecticut
HI
I have chaneged my cell phone services from verizon to att to get a discount on internet, cell phone , home phone and tv. somehow I guess my international carrier(startec)was switched to att. I received a bill for $1260 for calling IRAN. the per minute rate is about. $6 per min. I pay startec 7.8cents per minute. I tried to talk to the supervisor at att, and thebest they could do was give my 50% off and I refuse to accept that. What are my options

You can choose to not pay the bill and let it go into collections, hurt your credit report, negotiate your self a better deal later on from a debt collector or debt buyer without as much of a vested interest (they buy these debts for pennies on the dollar) or you can later file bankruptcy and avoid the entire debt. However, you don't want to file bankruptcy simply for this debt, so if you make more consumer "errors" like this one or simply have enjoyed using your credit without the ability to pay your bills and have amassed many more debts, this may be a worthwhile option. Also when it goes to a debt collector take the time to read the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act Law and contact us. We happily sue debt collectors and charge our clients nothing as we get our fees paid by the collector. You may even be entitled to a penalty of one thousand dollars if the collector violates this law.
