Legal Question in Consumer Law in Connecticut

theft of misdelivered package

A package that was sent to me from a person close to me had been misdelivered by UPS. The tracking number online was unavailable and the person it was delivered to, sent my friend an email saying he recieved the package and plans to keep some of the valuable information including documents with confidential information. UPS claimed that the package was not yet delivered until I told them of his detailed email of all my personal belongings. He claimed that they lost the tag on the box and so they opened the box and found his phone number. He told them to ship it to him. Now UPS realizes what happened and is going back to get the package but how can I know he will give everything. I have emails saying he plans to keep some of the items. This is complicated more by the fact that the man is my friend's husband whom she is planning a divorce from (which is all the paperwork she has been collecting). Can anyone advise me? I plan to meet with a lawyer later this week.

I can't answer your question because I have no idea what the documents and other items are.
