Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Connecticut
Bought merchandise and never received
I have recently purchased a computer via e-mail from a company based in Greenville, North Carolina. I am not sure if I should be checking North Carolina or Connecticut since I am in CT and the company is in NC. They told me I would have to wait 10 days for my check to clear and once it did, they would ship it. Long story short, they never shipped the machine (it has been two months now. I called and they gave me bogus tracking numbers for UPS and lied about when it was going to be delivered and now they are not answering my e-mail, voice mail attempts for contact. I don't know how I can go about getting my money back.

I have very bad news for you. If the UPS tracking numbers were really faked, the odds are your money is gone for good. You didn't mention the name of the company you ordered from, but I'll bet they are already out of business.
About the only chance you have is to contact the North Carolina attorney general or consumer fraud office. If the company is still in business or any of the owners are still around, they might be able to get all or some of your money back for you.
If you have a street address for the company, use the Internet to locate a nearby business, telephone them, and see if you can get someone to walk next door or across the street, or whatever, and see if the company is still in business.
Sorry you've been screwed on this one, but let me give you some advice: Always, ALWAYS ALWAYS!! use a credit card when purchasing via mail order. If you had used a credit card for this transaction, all you would have had to do is show the card company what happened here, and they would have immediately taken the charges off your bill.
