Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Connecticut

re-pay

My wife and I recieved a letter in the mail from small claims court, saying that we owe $2,000 to this couple. We do know the couple but we never got $2,000 cash from them. Now we are asked to apear in Mass court in Apri. How can the courts make me pay for something I never got just because they say they gave me $2,000. Besides if you lend or give somebody that much money wouldent you get some kind of IOU or someting? Thank you for your help in this matter.

Re: re-pay

You should appear in court in Mass. and present your defense that you don't owe them the money. They have the burden of proof and will have to show that you do. Assuming they can not, you should win.
