Re: summons to appear in court

READ MY LIPS: Run, do not walk, to the courthouse, and if it is a small claims court, have the clerk help you file an ANSWER. If it is a Superior Court, have the clerk help you file an APPEARANCE.

NEXT: Make an appointment with a lawyer. If you do not have a regular lawyer, call the Lawyer Referral Service in Hartford, and they will help you find a lawyer who knows about the particular kind of case you have. You will get a HALF-HOUR appointment with this lawyer for $25.00. THIS IS NOT LEGAL AID -- THERE ARE NO INCOME GUIDELINES TO MEET. And the lawyer doesn't keep the $25.00 -- that goes to the Service to cover its costs.

Yes, if you DON'T defend yourself a judgment will enter against you, and after that it may go on your credit record. You should defend yourself (even if it turns out that I'm the lawyer suing you).
