Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Connecticut

I have my things in a storage facility. I got behind on my payments and they were going to auction my things off on 9/30/10. I spoke with the district manager on 9/29/10 and he gave me until 10/1/10 to come up with the money. In the meantime they auctioned my things off. I went to the office on 10/1/10 in the morning to bring them the money and was told they auctioned my things off. I explained to the guy there that the district manager said I had until that day to come up with the money. The district mananger was sitting there when I am having the conversation with the other guy. Finally he speaks up and tells me who is. He tried to figure out a way to make this my fault, and when he couldn't he told me he waould try and figure out a way to get my things back and would call me on Monday, 10/4/10. He didn't call me at work that day so I left work early so that I could go there in person and find out what was going on. I spoke with the manager on 10/4/10 and he informed me they did get my things back but they wanted me to find another place to store them. He even suggested a place down the street. He also said that they would let me use their truck so that I wouldn't have to pay for one. He said to call him today and let him know what was going on. I went yesterday and got another storage unit. I paid $150.00. I called them back this morning and talked to another guy who had no idea what was going on, I explained the whole situation to him,he said they were willing to let me keep my things there and they would take off the late charges. I explained again that I had already went & got another unit and paid for it.He also said that didn't have a truck available for me. He told me he had to call the district manager and get back to me. He called me back and said they found a truck I could use but I had to pay $250.00 to get my things back. Can they do this? I don't have $250.00. Please help.

Thank you,

Cheryl Pierce

I think when you try to work this out, you should get them to sign something stating what your agreement is. Also, you should only speak to one person when you negotiate not different people. Obviously, one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. Finally, you should speak to the owner and get this resolved in writing, Otherwise, you can take it to small claims court.
