Legal Question in Criminal Law in Connecticut
I'm 17 and my partner is 23. Can he be arrested with statuary rape if my parents dont approve? I recently enlisted in the military, would that change anything?

Under Connecticut law, both males and females who are under the age of sixteen cannot legally consent to sexual relations. This would mean that even if two people choose to have sex, if one of them is under the age of sixteen, the older person could be charged with sexual assault. Charges may be filed by the victim, the victims parents or guardians, or the States Attorney. Even if the victim or the victims parents refuse to cooperate, the States Attorney can still file criminal charges against the other person. Further, the victims parents may file charges even if the victim does not want to file charges. That being said, because you are over the age of 16, the age of consent in Connecticut, your partner cannot be charged with statutory rape. However, if you were not of the age of consent, your parents would be free to file charges against your partner, without your consent.
