Legal Question in Criminal Law in Connecticut
Accused of Stealing
I was given a presigned blank check by my boss with which I was told I could use to ''pay myself''. I wrote the check out for the appropriate amount (around 5 grand) and cashed the check. Ten days later I quit my job(my boss was very upset that I quit). About 40 days after I cashed the check my ex-boss called me to tell me that there were ''banking irregularities'' on his end. Essentialy he told me that he ''never authorized'' the check to be written in that amount and that he would contact the police if I didnt cough up some money. I refused and he went to the police. The first officer he spoke with told him that if he signed the check there was nothing he could do. He went to a different police station. They refused to take a report and sent him to the state attorneys office. The state attorney refered him to the first police officer who finally took his statement (3 months after his initial complaint). It is now 45 days after that officer officially took our statements. How long does it usually take to hear back on something like this?Should I be worried? Please note I told the police that the check was signed after it was completey filled out. After reflection I realized that this wasnt the case.Should I tell the cops that I erred?

Re: Accused of Stealing
I'm afraid this is one case where you really need to consult an attorney to be able to get an idea. I always advise my clients never to talk to the police without an attorney. Please contact me at (860) 524-5141 to set up an appointment.
