Legal Question in Criminal Law in Connecticut
CT College Son in Trouble at College in MA
In Nov 04 my 19-yr old son completed 50 hours of community service for possession of a small amount of pot and the court entered a nolle prosequi. In 13 months time, this nolle would be automatically erase all records of his arrest.
April 29 05, while on campus in MA, he got wildly drunk, got in a fight and ended up being arrested by the police and charged with disorderly conduct, assaulting a fellow student (although he was beat up by the student and his group of friends), and assaulting a police officer (kicked an ankle while being put in the back of the police car). This was his first trouble at the college, but it ended up badly because he was so out of it. He has no recollection of what he did or said, and woke up the next morning in a jail cell with no recollection of anything.
My first question is: Will the charge in CT will be known to the MA police and, if so, will that nolle prosequi be voided and the arrest made a part of his permanent record?
My 2nd question: Will CT hear about the arrest in MA?
My last question is: Is this most recent arrest serious enough to land him in jail? I realize this is very serious and we will need to get a lawyer (he wants to hire a public defender).

Re: CT College Son in Trouble at College in MA
The nolle inCt. should not be affected.Massachusetts probably will find out about ct. case;but it should not hurt because there is no criminal record. Ma. appears serious enough to warrant hiring an attorney;and there is always the possibility of jail in all criminal cases. Dennis P. McDonough
