Legal Question in Criminal Law in Connecticut

Do I need a lawyer for breach of peace?

I was arrested by local police for fighting with another student at school. I was charged with breach of peace by the police. I wanted to find out a few things. This being my first offense what should I expect to get as a sentence? Do I need a lawye when going to court for this charge? Can the other student press charges against me and if so would I be notified before I went to court or would I find out when I got there? It was breach of peace in the second degree. Thanks.

You would probably be well served to get a lawyer for this. A lot depends on the facts but given it is your first offense, there are a number of diversionary programs that will allow you to come out with a clean slate. Please feel free to call and make an appointment to come in and talk to me without cost or obligation. My fee to handle such a thing would be $500 which would cover up to 3 trips to court.
