Legal Question in Criminal Law in Connecticut
Motor Vehicle Accident
I had a motor vehicle accident and i was the only car involved. I was coming home late one evening, tried to make a call on cell phone and swerved to right and hit a stone wall and did minor damage to stone wall. Another driver was behing me and gave me aride home as i flattened two tires. I left car in a nearby parking lot. I did not notify police at this moment because i did not think i had to. The police came and knocked on my door later that evening, as i was sleeping i did not hear the knock. the policeman left his card and said call at 11pm the nest day. I got up and called police at 8am to notify of accident but they said i had to talk to policeman on duty that night. He came over at 1am that evening and gave me a ticket for evading respons. and released me at my house. Do I need to get a attorney as thepoliceman said i cld handle at court myself, is this a jailable offence, do i have a certain amount of time to report a accident, can i represent myself as this is a misdemeanor

This is an offense that carries the possibility of jail, license suspension and severe insurance problems.I would not handle it without a competent attorney. dennis P. McDonough www.criminallawyerconnecticut.com
