Legal Question in Criminal Law in Connecticut

Shoplifting - Larceny 6th

My 17 year old daughter did something very stupid today...she shoplifted $114 of merchandise. The store immediately had her arrested, and she was processed with a promise to appear in court in 2 weeks. Of course I have many questions, one of which is will this be on her record for the rest of her life or can/will it be automatically erased when she reaches 18? DO we need to petition for it to be erased after so many months/years? From this point forward, if she's asked on a job application if she's been arrested, will she need to answer yes until it's erased. How will we know if/when it gets erased. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Re: Shoplifting - Larceny 6th

The most important thing is that your daughter have proper representation. Depending on the circumstances, it is likely that she may not have a record for this if handled properly. Alternatively, it could be arranged that her record would be erased upon reaching adulthood. I would be happy to give you a consultation without cost. Please feel free to contact my office to schedule an appointment. [email protected].

Take Care,
