Legal Question in Criminal Law in Connecticut

Writing Bad Checks

I have a bank account in Connecticut that was recently closed without my knowledge. While in Florida I had written 6 checks totaling a little over 400.00. I have contacted the checking agencies that these bad checks went to and they said I had 30 days to pay and then they would send the case to the state attorney. Could you give some feedback on what could happen if I don't pay these on time...and in what state the criminal case would take place in (Connecticut or Florida)? Please this is very important to me, I am a single mother scared of being incarcerated. Thank you for your time.

Re: Writing Bad Checks

The offense occurs were the bad checks were delivered. In Florida, bad check cases, once received by the State Attorney's Office, are sent to a diversion program (typically). This program requires you to pay or make payments within a specified amount of time. If you fail doing that then they will proceed with the prosecution. Many times, if charged and being prosecuted, an attorney can have the State Attorney's Office drop the charges if full payment is made.
