Legal Question in Elder Law in Connecticut
My parents have 2 small group universal life ins. policies. The cash surrender on both is less than $1,600. My dad may need long term care at a state nursing home and will have to get on Medicaid. How do I protect these policies, as its the only money the family is counting on for funeral expenses. They have absolutely no other assets. Thank You.

They are each entitled to keep a pre-paid funeral plan up to at least (and it might be more now) $5400.00 per person. They can cash them in and pay the monies into a pre-paid plan. If you contact a funeral home they will assist you.
