Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

15yo son went to live with father

My 15yo son (almost 16), whom I've had sole custody of all his life, went to live with his non-custodial father this week against my wishes, but I know there's not much I can do about it. My son was becoming increasingly defiant and uncontrollable and this behavior was being encouraged by his father to spite me. My question now is, I realize that his child support to me will cease, but will I now be liable to pay the father child support? It took me 9 years and $8000 in legal and private investigator fees (to prove that my ex was in fact working off-the-books) just to get the child support that I was getting. And he paid nothing else - did not help with medical bills, summer camps, sports, school-sponsored ski trips, etc. - even when asked. I am not working (stay-at-home mother of 3 children under 8 - 7yo, 22mo, & 9mo). My husband supports me and my children (and took care of my 15yo with me for over 10 years). I live in NY and my ex now lives in CT. Thank you for your advice.

For the child support (him to you) to stop, he'd have to get the current order of primary residence and support modified, otherwise it keeps ticking along. Same with getting support (you to him); he'd have to go to court to get an order. If you are unemployed for a good reason (22mos and 9mos is a good reason), it's likely he couldn't get an order at this time anyway. (Maybe in 3-4 years, but yours will be 18+ by then).
