Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut
age a child ceases to become a minor in ct
Per my Separation Agreement it states: ''Husband shall maintain medical insurance for the benefit of the minor children. The parties shall share equally any and all unreimbursed medical, dental, psychological and orthodontic expenses for the minor children. At what age does the child cease to be a minor? My ex-wife is bringing me to court for unreimbursed dental expenses At the time dental services were rendered my child was 18. I continue to maintain health insurance for this child although the child is now 18 and out of school and not enrolled in any other higher education facility. I previously informed my ex-wife that I would not pay for this ''implant'' as the pre-fabricated post and crown that I previously paid half for (501.00) should be sufficient. What is my obligation in this matter? Thank you for your input and time. Repectfully submitted.

Re: age a child ceases to become a minor in ct
Normally, the child support (and, also, the contribution to dental expenses) continues until the child is 18 or until the child graduates from high school, but not later than 19. The theory being that many children turn 18 during their senior year in high school so the child support continues until they graduate, but not later than their 19th birthday. So, if your child turned 18, but was still in high school, you get stuck with the bill. If he had graduated, or dropped out of high school, you're off the hook.
