Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut
Name Change
I have a 8 month old daughter, I had an affair with her biological father while I was living with another man. at birth I told bio dad that I was going to give her my boyfriends last name. He had no objections because he did not believe she was his. DNA was done and confirmed she was his.Now the State of CT is taking him to court because he refuses to sign paternaty papers until her last name is changed to his. Can the state force me to change her name?He has no contact with her she only knows my boyfriend as her daddy.

Re: Name Change
That's a very good question. I am not sure they can force you to change your child's name. As the biological mother you have certain rights to make decisions regarding your child without the interference of government. So long as the biological father is in agreement I don't think the state has the power to do so. I think you should fight it. Are you sure they are not merely taking him to court to obtain child support?
