child support
i've been served to appear in court for child support in the state of conn.. the child was born in ma.. at the age of 3 the child was legaly adopted after the mother married to the new step father in ma.. i never new of this child and my name is not on th birth certificate.since then the mother divorced and moved to connecticut.the mother now wants me to pay for support for this child now 17 yrs. am i obligated to pay?

If you assented to the adoption, and the adoption occurred legally, the legal father (NOT "step-father") is obligated to pay support. A legal adoption in Massachusetts is an adjudication of parentage, and is binding. Under Massachusetts law, at least, adoptive father is the first and only source of funds. However, you need to get advice from a Connecticut attorney on this point.
