Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Child support

Before my wife and were married, she had a child. At the age of 1 or so, the child went to live full time with the father. They never arranged for support of any kind. The father claims the child for taxes and allow very little interaction with the mother. We are now married and the father and the child who is now 11 years old live in up-state ny. We are ct residents and live about 2.5 hours away. The father is now making threats for child support, even though 11 years have gone by with arrangement for previous support during the past 11 years. How liable is she/we? How would it work if he were to file in upstate ny and we live in ct? We have a rough combined income of well over 160k, mostly from me. Am I now in some kind of jeapordy?

Re: Child support

He may be able to obtain child support if he were to file a petition for support. There are several standards he would have to satisfy. However, as a general rule, both parents are liable for support until the child is 18 yrs old. If you need further help, you can email me at [email protected].
