Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut
child support-post secondary education-pre majority
My son is currently 17 and will enter college this fall. He will turn 18 in December. I currently pay weekly child support. My divorce decree makes no mention of obligation to pay for post secondary education. However, my ex now states that because my son is not yet 18, I am obligated to pay half of his 1st semester tuition. She has a savings account, started when my son was born, that I thought was intended for this purpose. She says no-it's her money. My son was 9 when we divorced, so we contributed at least $4680 to the account before I left (without any accrued interest). This would more than cover my portion. I'd love to help my son out , but feel if money needs to be borrowed, he needs to take that responsibility.(student loan) She disagrees. What is my obligation, if any?

Re: child support-post secondary education-pre majority
You must continue to pay the child SUPPORT order until he is 18; you need not contribute beyond that.
