Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Child Visitation

Is a mother allowed to dictate that a father can only see a child in her very own home under her watchful eye when she is present if she has no legal cause or precedence? She told me that the only way to see my son, although I live over two hours away, is to come to her home, or she will meet me in a netural spot (my immediate family's cose by) and she has to stay with us. She says that he needs to be with her all the time because she is his mother and she just feels better that way. I have filed for joint custody. Is she legall allowed to dictate where and when I see my child without just cause?

Re: Child Visitation

You need to obtain temporary and then permanent orders awarding you "normal" visitation time with your son. Unless you have something seriously wrong with you, like drug or alcohol abuse, a history of physical abuse, or a mental illness, you will be given time with your son like other fathers. Supervised visitation, whether by the mother or someone else, is not appropriate unless you fall into one of the above categories.

Since you filed for joint custody, you can also apply for immediate orders outlining the terms of the visitation pending the final judgment.
