Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut
My children are gone
My children flew to Oregon on July 4th, Matt -15, and Kristen -14. They didn't want to live with their mom in Oregon, but the GAL thought it might better their relationship with the mother who had thrown Matt out of her home at 12 and left Kristen behind at 13 to move to Oregon. Kristen wasn't doing her potential in school this past year and Matt did poorly (as always). Both children have had it rough, making adjustments and dealing with this custody mess. They asked me to do anything I could to allow them to stay. I could not afford legal representation, and feel like I've failed them. The judge ordered ''shared physical custody'' forcing the children to Oregon during the school year and back to Connecticut during the summer. These kids are miserable, her mother is so hard to live with. What am I supposed to do. I don't think the decision was right in the least! The order was made May 7, now too late for any appeal. Now I go before the Magistrate and learn I pay support while the children are in Oregon but don't receive any while they are here in the summer. I don't think this is ''shared'' anything and my relationship to my children has been reduced to mere ''visitation''. $12.00/ hr won't get help for me or my children. Help?

Re: My children are gone
You really need to see an attorney right away. Although I don't have enough details and facts regarding your case, there may be a chance that you can "reopen" your case. One has 4 months from the date of the decision to reopen a case under the appropriate circumstances regardless of missing any opportunity to appeal.
