Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut
Childs education rights
My 12 year old daughter would like to go to school where I live this fall. She is a very gifted student and would like to be challenged at a school that can offer her more. Everyone is in aggreement that it would be a great experience for her except her father. He doesnt want to let her go because hes afraid he will lose her.
What legal rights does a twelve year old have?
Thank you

Re: Childs education rights
Normally, none. But, if you are divorced from her father, talk to the attorney who did your divorce, or speak to one to go over the divorce judgement to explain your rights as a parent. Normally, a 12 yr. old doesn't have the right to choose where she goes to school, it is up to the parents according to the divorce decree. Have an attorney review it, especially the attorney who did your divorce, there may be other issues involed. Tom Noonan.
