Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut
Hello, I am a Connecticut registered sex offender due to an incident that happened when I myself was twelve years old. I was arrested at the age of 14 and under the professional opinion of a family lawyer told to take a plea bargain which was my conviction at age 16. I am now 24 years old and will be turning 25 in April of this year. I am on the registry until approximately May of 2011. I am not on probation or parole and I have no restrictions that say I must keep away from children etc.
I have been dating a woman who has two wonderful children, her and I have been completely happy in our relationship together. Now however her five year old daughters father is threatening to take her to court for custody of their daughter under the pretense that she is an unfit mother for the sole reason that she is dating me, someone on the sex offender registry. The said father only has visitation rights every other weekend. My question is this, Does he have a case to take custody of his daughter on the basis that her mother is dating a sex offender? They were never married in case that makes a difference.

Your question is a difficult one. Unfortunately, without knowing more, I can not predict whether he can get custody under these circumstances. However, I think that she needs to have a consultation with an experienced family law attorney about the subject.
