Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Hi, My cousin got married to a United States citizen guy two years ago in India. Right after the marriage, he revealed to her that he was being forced by his parents (he's in his 40's) and just didn't behave well with her during their honeymoon. This created intense tension between my cousins family and the guys family. During this time, his parents advised him secretly to just say sorry to everyone and promise that something like this will never happen. Then before leaving for America, he told my cousins family that he would file for her so she can gain status to come to America as well. After coming here, all communication between him and his new "wife" and her family stopped. He was indeed not interested in the marriage and once my cousin and her family found out about this they filed all the divorce papers there. As you know, the judicial system in India is very hard to deal with and since one spouse is here, the case kept delaying over there in India. Now recently, he has filed some divorce papers here in America, Connecticut to be exact and had papers sent there to India. In my eyes, this is a clear case of fraud. There has been incredible amount of damage to my cousin and her family. I would like your opinion on this and what should be the way forward for them. If the marriage was in India, how can ge file divorce papers here? Thank you for your time.

He can get a divorce here if he's lived here for a year. Unfortunately, she's not going to get much by way of recompense, other than whatever actual expenses she's had. She might well get her attorney's fees. But she won't get anything unless she hires a lawyer and participates in the process here.
