Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

(CT) visitation

The mother of the child refuses to add the fathers name to the birth certificate (giving the father rights as well? or does it matter?). He does see the baby often but can she refuse to let him see the baby ever? How does visitation work in that case, does the father have just as much right as the mother even if his name isn't on the birth certificate? We are an hour and a half away from her and she say's she doesn't want the baby to come because we are to far away from her, we are in New London CT she is in Southbury CT, we travel there to visit always. Thank you for your time. Alarice

Re: (CT) visitation

You need to file a custody action in the family court of the New London Superior Court. In this action, the father's paternity will be decided, and eventually his name can be put on the birth certificate. (assuming he is the biological father). You will need to have orders entered into that give him joint custody and a regular visitation schedule.

He will probably have to pay child support as well.
