Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut
who would get custody
my ex and i have a 17 month old daughter. I was a stay at home mother with her for this whole time but since we seperated i have to go back to work. I have a stable home with her at my moms house and he provides some support but claims he will fight me for custody if i file for welfare to help me get a job and quailify for care for kids to help with daycare. I have a past psych record but have been stable for at least 3 years. Im worried he will get custoday just because of that and because he already has a stable job. Though even without working even if he quit giving me money...I would have the help of my family in seeing to her financial needs. I have been the one taking care of her in every way except financially since she was born.

I really can't tell you what the outcome of a custody dispute would likely be without knowing more information. However, usually what kind of job one has or how much money one makes is not the determining factor in a custody dispute. Also, the fact you have a past "psych record" also would not be the deciding factor in a custody dispute if you have no problems presently and are no danger to anyone.
If you need to apply for care for kids because you need to work then you need to do this. This has no relevance to a custody dispute as far as I am concerned.

There is no simple answer. There are many factors that go into a custody order. Factors that are too numerous to list here. The fact that you have a stable home is certainly helpful. If you need further help, you can email me at [email protected].
