Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

My daughter in law is divorcing my son. He is in prison and she is asking for sole custody of their 3 year old son. I would like to know what my wife and I have for rights for our grandson. Also we are considering asking our daughter in law if she would consider joint custody with us. Is that possible?

I don't have enough information to answer your question and furthermore, it's a very complicated answer. You have two major issues and that is sole custody and grand parent rights when the father is incarcerated. This is not a question that can be answered in this forum.

Nevertheless, you should consult with a family law attorney about your rights. Is your daughter in law reasonable and do you think she wants her son's paternal grandparents a part of his life?

Joint custody between your daughter in law and you and your wife may only be possible if she agrees. There are other factors that would need to be considered if joint custody was possible between you and your wife and your daughter in law without an agreement- meaning a judge's decision. This would only occur after a trial.
