Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Divorce Agreements...are they cast in stone?

I have a simple question on divorce agreements. I signed an agreement 4 or 5 years ago which include an alimony agreement. In this agreement I also took custody of a child, and have never received 1 cent for child support.

I had trouble with my attourney and ended up acting as my own and fear some very bad (and emotional) decisions were made. The alimony agreement is for 10 years....is there any way to change or overthrow this agreement?

I would like to save the money for the childs education

Thank you for any assistance

Re: Divorce Agreements...are they cast in stone?

The first question is whether your agreement prevents a modification of the alimony in amount or term of years/months. If it does, you probably can not modify it. If it does not, then you may be able to move to modify the amount or the term if you show a substantial change in circumstances. Merely wanting to save the money for your children' education is not enough. More facts are needed to determine if a "substantial change in cirumstances" exists to warrant a modification.
